Proof of Reserves
Every uAsset is backed 1:1 by real assets. Here's how the reserve system works and how to verify it yourself.
Every uAsset in circulation is backed by the real underlying asset held in custody. This page explains how the reserve system works.
1:1 backing
For every uBTC, there's one real BTC. For every uSOL, there's one real SOL. The ratio is always 1:1.
This isn't algorithmic or fractional. It's full reserve backing - the simplest and most trustworthy model.
Coinbase Prime custody
All reserves are held in Coinbase Prime, Coinbase's institutional custody solution. Coinbase Prime provides:
- SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type II certified security
- Insurance coverage
- Segregated cold storage
- Regulatory compliance
How to verify
You can check the reserves yourself at any time:
- Go to universal.xyz/reserves
- See the total supply of each uAsset
- Compare against the custodied balance
The numbers should always match. If they don't, something is wrong.
Why this matters
Many wrapped assets and stablecoins have failed because they weren't fully backed. UST, various bridge tokens, and fractional reserve experiments have all collapsed.
Universal takes the simple approach: hold the real asset, prove you have it, let anyone verify. No algorithms, no fractional reserves.
Redemption
Merchants can redeem uAssets for the underlying asset at any time. This redemption mechanism keeps uAssets pegged to their underlying value and ensures the reserves remain verifiable.

How Universal Works
Universal routes trades to get you the best execution. Native tokens go through DEX aggregators. Non-native assets are minted as uAssets.
What's a uAsset?
uAssets bring any asset to any chain. They're 1:1 backed and redeemable anytime.
